IEMS Director Albert Park shared his opinion about China’s Belt and Road project at Channel News Asia’s expert panel discussion programme “Between the Lines”. He mentioned that OBOR countries “want an opportunity to have more infrastructure, and if China is offering it, they don’t want to lose out, and they want to benefit.” He also pointed out that China will not be able to invest in all participating countries equally so in some sense they are competing against each other.
Prof. Park said that the idea of economies’ transformation has limitations, and there are several things to consider when executing projects planned under One Belt One Road initiative: feasibility, risk factors, implementation, and returns.
