Xiang Ma received his Ph.D in Economics from Yale University. His research focuses on public good provision and agriculture in emerging markets. He conducted field work in Gansu Province of China and studied school consolidation there. His doctoral dissertation examines local governments’ motivation in consolidating schools, in which more than half of primary schools were closed.
During graduate study, he won the Cowles Foundation Fellowship and the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship from Yale University.
