9th Annual APRU Research Conference on Population Aging

Hosted by the HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies, the 9th Annual Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Research Conference on Population Aging will be held on December 7-8, 2018 at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. The theme of this year’s conference is “Dementia, Cognition, and Healthy and Productive Aging”.

Best Poster Prizes

The following PhD students have won the Best Poster Prizes at the Conference:

  • Akayo BABA (University of Tokyo) on Care Burden and Other Attitudes in Mother-Daughter Residential Caregiving Relationship
  • Man LI (East China Normal University) on The causal effect of a transition to co-residence with adult children on the parental subjective well-being — Evidence from the CLHLS using a difference-in-differences propensity score matching approach
  • He ZHU (Osaka University) on Does the Absence of Adult Children Migration Influence the Health of Parents Left Behind? The Impact from Rural to Urban Migration in China

PhD Poster Session Guidelines

The poster session will be a valuable and effective way to present your research findings and elicit feedback from leading experts and researchers in the field of aging studies. The poster should be a summary of your research presented in a visually engaging way. This session will be held outside the IAS Lecture Theatre during the conference.

Please follow the below guidelines when preparing your poster:

  • Your poster should be A0 size and portrait.
  • Please bring along your poster for set up after 3:00 PM on Thursday 6 Dec.
  • The session will take place on Friday 7 Dec at [UPDATED] 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. We ask that you be ready and stationed alongside your poster at this time.
  • We encourage you to prepare an elevator pitch of your research, prepare A4 handouts of your poster, and business/name cards.
  • Please remove your posters at the end of the conference.
  • A panel of judges will be reviewing your posters and will be giving out 3 prizes at the closing ceremony.

Call for Abstracts (closed)

The conference welcomed submission of papers or 3-page extended abstracts for paper presentations at the conference by September 16, 2018. 

We are delighted to have received over 140 submissions covering a wide range of topics such as

  • Dementia and cognitive function of the elderly, including measurement, determinants, and consequences for work and elderly care
  • Health care and long-term care
  • Extending working lives, pensions, and retirement
  • Elderly well-being, including economic, social, and physical and mental health

Accommodation 

Many of the overseas participants will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Kowloon East.

Please note that accommodation will be provided for invited speakers and PhD Student Presenters to the conference only. 

How to get to the venue

The conference will take place on the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
