IEMS Activities Grant

Scheme Guidelines

The HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) invites proposals from HKUST faculty and researchers throughout the year. The aim of the IEMS Activities Grant is to support activities that deepen understanding of the business and policy challenges in emerging markets.

Eligibility and Event Types

Proposals can be for events either exclusively sponsored by HKUST IEMS or in partnership with other internal or external organizations. Eligible activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Policy and business talks
  • Workshops
  • Forums
  • Conferences

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Scope and Relevance: Alignment with IEMS themes and topics.
  • Target Audience: Ability to engage both business and academic communities.
  • Potential Impact: Anticipated contribution to emerging market studies.
  • Funding: Amount requested and financial feasibility.
  • Support: Evidence of backing from other HKUST academic units.
  • Track Record: Previous successes of the event convenor(s).

Preference will be given to events that:

  • Are highly relevant to IEMS themes.
  • Promote collaboration and co-sponsorship with other units.
  • Foster partnerships and interdisciplinary dialogue.
  • Encourage diverse perspectives on emerging market issues.

Application Process

To apply, event convenors must complete the proposal form and email the form to iems@ust.hk.

Proposals should be submitted at least 6 months before the proposed event date to allow sufficient time for review and event preparation. Submissions that fail to meet this timeline may be denied.

Review and Decision

Decisions are typically made within one month of proposal submission. Requests for expedited review are considered but not guaranteed. Funding decisions are also dependent on the Institute's budget availability at the time of the review.
