HKUST IEMS is sponsoring a forum to examine the effects of an earlier tribunal ruling which declared that ownership of Spratlys is not enough for an exclusive economic zone. Guest speakers will cover the ruling’s effect on the South China Sea dispute, Philippine-China relations in the media and the geopolitics of the region.

Dr Ian Storey, Senior Fellow and Editor of Contemporary South East Asia at ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute, will deliver his talk “Southeast Asia and the South China Dispute after the Arbitral Tribunal’s Award”. Prof Zhu Feng, Executive Director of the China Center for Collaborative Studies of the South China Sea and Professor of International Relations at Nanjing University, presents “South China Sea after the Hague." Mr Jaime FlorCruz, CNN Beijing Bureau Chief, will talk about the "Media's Role in Philippine-China Relations," and Prof Baohui Zheng, Director, Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS) will speak on “Great Power Politics and the South China Sea situation”.

The forum will be hosted by Prof David Zweig, IEMS Faculty Associate, and organized by the HKUST Division of Social Science and the Lingnan University Center for Asian and Pacific Studies.

A full itinerary and registration form can be found here. For more information, please contact Ms. Meggy Wan at someggy_AT_ust.hk.
