Jinlin seeks to understand the role of infrastructure in economic development in history from a spatial perspective. His work involves including China, South Asia, and the United Kingdom. He published a paper related to railways and urbanisation in colonial India with coauthors. He also works on financial development and innovation in Britain during the Industrial Revolution.
He holds a PhD in Economics and an MRes in Economics from the Department of Economics, University of Warwick, an M.A. in Economics, a B.Sc. in Physics and a B.A. in Economics from Peking University.
