During the two-year period from July 2015 to June 2017, the HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) continued to build a strong reputation for providing thought leadership on the key challenges facing businesses and policy-makers in emerging markets.
This report details the progress the Institute has made in 2015-2017. Highlights include the launch of a new research program on China’s Belt and Road Initiative, supported by a three-year Strategic Public Policy Research grant from Hong Kong’s Central Policy Unit, as well as the funding of 14 competitive research grants to its Faculty Associates to study a range of topics within its main focus areas: jobs and human capital, financial development, innovation and entrepreneurship, global economic integration, and firms, consumers, and markets.
The report also includes short write-ups on our wide array of events and publications which include 8 conferences and workshops, 10 policy and business talks, 27 academic seminars, 5 thought leadership briefs, and 27 academic working papers.
