The HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) is proud to present a new research report by Prof. Laurence L. Delina and Leslie Anne L. Yasis. The S Factor Unpacked: Tracking Social KPI Evolution in Five HKEX-Listed Companies examines how five major HKEX-listed companies — spanning financial services, utilities, transportation, real estate, and aviation — have disclosed their social Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) under the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide over a seven-year period from 2018 to 2024.

The report finds that while employment and health & safety KPIs are reported consistently across sectors, significant gaps remain in supply chain transparency and labour standards disclosures. Notably, a broader shift is observed across companies — from compliance-driven, quantitative reporting toward more narrative-based disclosures, signalling growing maturity in how businesses communicate their social performance to stakeholders.
