[Updated on April 26, 2016] We are delighted to announce the funding results of IEMS Research Grants 2015-2016. The response was tremendous and we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all those who participated in the process. The awardees can be found here.


The HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (HKUST IEMS) is pleased to announce the new around of IEMS Research Grants (2015-2016) and invite research proposals. HKUST faculty and research staff are welcome to submit applications for research grants of up to HK$125,000 for individual projects and HK$150,000 per Principal Investigator for collaborative research projects. Priority will be given to collaborative research projects and proposals that are oriented around the follow themes:

  1. Human capital, employment, and structural change
  2. Innovation and entrepreneurship
  3. Global economic integration
  4. Financial development
  5. Firms, consumers, and markets

Detailed terms and conditions of the Grants can be found in our guidelines. To apply, please prepare a proposal that includes a completed grant proposal form and no more than 3 pages of text per HKUST Principal Investigator (not including references, single-spaced, 12-point font) that discusses the relevance of the project to the challenges facing emerging markets, the research methodology, and justifications for the budget. Collaborative research proposals must also specify the role and contribution of each investigator. All application materials should be sent to iems@ust.hk by noon on Monday, 14 March 2016. Funding decisions will be announced in April 2015.
