Sujata Visaria to Serve as Acting Director of IEMS

Sujata Visaria, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, has been appointed Acting Director of HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies starting Monday 5 February through the end of July, 2018. Prof Albert Park, Director of the Institute, is on sabbatical leave this year.
Prof Visaria is a distinguished scholar in the field of development economics, with publications in the very best journals in economics. She has an active research program on microfinance in India based on field experiments, among other research topics. Prof Visaria has been a Faculty Associate of IEMS since its founding, has been very active in the Institute giving seminars and authoring a Thought Leadership Brief, and served two years on the Institute's Executive Committee.
While on sabbatical leave, Prof Park will continue to manage longer-term planning issues and relationships with the Insitute's sponsors and partners.
