On 16 August 2024, EY orchestrated the impactful “Synergize GBA Forum 2024” at Kerry Hotel, supported by the HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). This year’s event, themed “Unleashing new quality productive forces: value enhancement, integration, competition and breakthrough”, brought together experts and stakeholders to explore the growth and integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
In a panel discussion themed "Competition: Charting the future of the GBA," Professor Kar Yan Tam, Acting Director of IEMS, shared valuable insights and optimism regarding Hong Kong's talent pool. Professor Tam stated, “The GBA's potential is immense, with talent being the critical factor. Hong Kong, an international financial centre with excellent education, offers capital and skilled talent for growth. Our city's unique East-West bridge position, global perspective, and strong academic foundation make us a key driver in the GBA's development. I'm optimistic about the GBA's future and Hong Kong's pivotal role in shaping it.” The panel discussion moderated by Ms Jasmine Lee, Managing Partner of EY Hong Kong and Macau, said, “We must draw upon the best practice from leading bay areas globally to forge innovative pathways for the GBA pioneer, nurture strategic industries and establish a world-class business environment and lifestyle to attract global capital and renowned talent.”
The panel also featured two other distinguished speakers, Mr James Wong, Chairman of Hon Kwok Land Investment Company Limited, and Mr Stuart Gibson, Executive Director, Group Co-Founder, and Co-CEO of ESR Group Limited. They enrich the dialogue with diverse perspectives on the region's trajectory and the development of the Greater Bay Area in comparison with the San Francisco Bay Area and Tokyo Bay Area.
This collaborative exchange of ideas and visions highlighted the GBA's potential for growth and innovation.
Stay tuned for an upcoming video that will encapsulate the essence of the forum and the engaging discussions that transpired.
