Before the Belt and Road, there was a lot of investment in mining, but after that, investment in carbon energy plants, mineral raw material and metal smelting plants increased substantially. In a news article on “China's Belt and Road Project and the High-Carbon Future of Developing Countries”, Angela Tritto said in an event that China’s investments in South East Asian countries such as Indonesia brings high carbon emission and negative environmental impacts but the ruling elites in the countries see the investments from China as mutually beneficial.
